Survey of Language Skills
Collecting Language Data
Hi,
I took some time to create a 'live survey form' on google docs. I use this format to send to my students' teachers so I can compile data and get an overall sense of how my students are doing in their classroom setting. I usually work with my kiddos in a small group setting and sometimes I need a different perspective of how they are generalizing skills. As a result I have a more complete picture of their performance during small group and larger group settings.
Use the 'live form' to send to your respondents and make sure to make it your own by copying to your own files. Request for editing access and you can easily edit and add information as needed.
Click on the link below for access to this survey.
Hope you can use this!

Grandma's Kitchen
A Writing and Description Activity
Who doesn't love grandma's kitchen? Imagine all the warmth you felt as you were growing up, savoring grandma's meals and basking in the sweet aroma of her kitchen. As I recall my childhood, I can still picture my grandmother cooking up some amazing meals and telling me step by step how I could prepare it for my own family one day.
As I was reflecting on those memories, I thought about how I can incorporate those associations to an activity for my students. Why do I always go back to my students and their learning? :) Anyway, if I had such fond memories of her kitchen, I was sure my students also had similar experiences. It could be loads of fun writing and speaking about a creative grandma story.
What I generated was an activity incorporating writing and verbal skills so your kiddos can create an original story about "Grandma's Kitchen". I scaffolded the writing from simple to more challenging tasks. In the end, students learn to 'break down' the writing process into manageable steps and also learn various transitional words to make their piece flow.
