A Writing and Description Activity
Who doesn't love grandma's kitchen? Imagine all the warmth you felt as you were growing up, savoring grandma's meals and basking in the sweet aroma of her kitchen. As I recall my childhood, I can still picture my grandmother cooking up some amazing meals and telling me step by step how I could prepare it for my own family one day.
As I was reflecting on those memories, I thought about how I can incorporate those associations to an activity for my students. Why do I always go back to my students and their learning? :) Anyway, if I had such fond memories of her kitchen, I was sure my students also had similar experiences. It could be loads of fun writing and speaking about a creative grandma story.
What I generated was an activity incorporating writing and verbal skills so your kiddos can create an original story about "Grandma's Kitchen". I scaffolded the writing from simple to more challenging tasks. In the end, students learn to 'break down' the writing process into manageable steps and also learn various transitional words to make their piece flow.
